Carpet manufacturers have been hard at work focusing on reducing the impact on our environment by investing massively in recyling programs. Much of the carpet produced today uses substantial amounts of recycled material redirected from landfills in our cities. Here on the westcoast of Canada, we are still waiting for a local carpet reclamation facility which should be here in the near future, meanwhile carpet removed out of larger commercial projects are eligible for reclamation programs - shipping to recycling facilities

in the US. Other advancements include reducing voc's within the fibers and backings (lower emmissions than most paint) and green label certification standards for the carpet industry. Lastly, recent introductions of new carpet fibers such as Smartstrand by Mohawk (Dupont Sorona) replaces petroleum based nylon, polyester and olefin with corn based triexta. Not only that, triexta boasts superior properties in wear and stain resistance than other fibers.

Carpet continues to improve on stain resistance, durability and sustainability. Such innovations like Dupont (who brought you Stainmaster) have now made triexta (Smartstrand) which has proven to be a very formidable carpet fiber for it's wear and stain-resistance properties.
